Chandrayaan-3: India's Quest For Lunar Exploration Continues
Chandrayaan-3, is a follow-on mission to Chandrayaan-1 and Chandrayaan-2 to show its potential in safe landing and roving on the lunar surface by the Indian Space Research Organisation, is poised to make its mark in the field of exploration.
MISSION GOALS:
- To show safe and soft landing on Lunar Surface.
- To show Rover roving on the moon surface.
- To cnduct scientific experiments.
MISSION MODULES:
Chandrayaan-3 comprises of an indigenous Lander module(LM), Propulsion module(PM) and a Rover. The name of Lander module(LM) and Rover are not disclosed yet, by the ISRO for some confidential reasons.
LAUNCH DATE AND TIME:
The Indian Space Research Organization(ISRO) has reported that Chandrayaan-3 India's third lunar mission, is planned to send off on July 14 at 2:35pm. ISRO said the launch window is open from 12 July to 19 July 2023.
LAUNCH PLACE:
Chandrayaan-3 will be launched from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre(SHAR) Sriharikota, satellite launching station. Sriharikota, satellite launching station is located in Tirupati district of Andhra Pradesh state in India.
LAUNCH VEHICLE:
The launch vehicle, LVM-3 ( 3 stages medium lift launch vehicle) is going to be used for this launch and its assembly is going on. The propulsion module will carry the lander and rover configuration in 100 km lunar orbit.
LANDING DATE ON MOON SURFACE:
According to ISRO estimated touchdown date on moon surface is likely on 23 August - 2023
DEBOOSTING OPERATION:
Deboosting is a process to slow down landing speed of a spacecraft.
Chandrayaan 3 has been conducted 2 deboosting operations. The second and final deboosting operation last on 20Aug2023 has successfully reduced the LM orbit to 25km to 134km. The module would undergo internal checks and await the sun-rise at the designated landing site.
ISRO Officially announced, the powered descent is expected to commence on August 23, 2023, around `18:04hrs. IST. ISRO will go through an internal check before 2 hour of the powered descent on 23 August, if ISRO found any technical error than the next date of powered descent will be 27 August 2023.
REGISTRATION AND TICKETS FOR LANDING EVENT ON MOON SURFACE:
To watch landing on moon surface, on 23 August registrations are open on ISRO official site.
Chandrayaan-3 embodies India's strong dedication to Lunar exploration, building upon the Chandrayaan-1 and Chandrayaan-2, rectifying past struggle, with upgraded technology, refined mission and planning. This mission represents a significant milestone in India's space exploration journey. As Chandrayaan 3- touch its sights on the Moon the whole world eagerly awaits the scientific discoveries and achievements that will undoubtedly follow, ahead our knowledge of Earths's celestial bodies.
